Respectfully it is "Strain" not "Strand”

Respectfully it is "Strain" not "Strand".

This is a very common mix up that I hear often so I wanted to help make a distinction between the two.

"Strain" in this case is a term used to describe varietals of the cannabis plant and there are hundreds, possibly thousands of "strains" or different types of cannabis varietals.

Due to cultivators who have been geneticizing new strains constantly because they want to produce different looks, smells and effects from those strains. So we have new strains that have been "hybridized" popping up all of the time. This is why calling a strain a "hybrid" doesn't really describe effect because most strains are a "hybrid" at this point. If it's not a hybrid then it would be a "landrace".

(And don't forget.. "sativa" "indica" and "hybrid" are not reliable terms when we are describing effect because cannabis is changing constantly after it is harvested.)

Cannabis has been talked about, researched, and even developed in a shroud of secrecy due to prohibition around the plant, so making terminology mistakes is normal.

This post is not meant to shame anyone for using the wrong terminology but to use this common mix-up as a teaching point to make you feel more empowered when purchasing or talking about cannabis going forward.💖🍃🍃
